Aziza is a native of Harlem, New York and long-time community activist, as well as a choreographer, performer and teacher whose work focuses on the development of community-based art. As a professional dancer she toured with Stevie Wonder, Dianne McIntyre's Sounds In Motions and David Rousseve and was assistant choreographer for the Broadway productions of RENT and MULE BONE. Aziza is the Founder/Artistic Director of the Def Dance Jam Workshop, an inter-generational performing arts troupe and program serving youth and adults who are deaf, hard of hearing, and physically or developmentally challenged. She is the Founder and Executive Director of The Black Choreographers Project, Inc., which produced "The Great Gathering," a poster acknowledging the contributions of 79 African American dance professionals age 50 and older. In addition, Aziza is an ordained Interfaith Minister, Aziza blends her artistic gifts with her spiritual ministry in movement workshops and choreography called "Spirit Dance." that blends African, modern and liturgical dance with sacred text and chants. Aziza is an American cultural specialist and she is here in Cyprus sponsored by the United States Embassy, Nicosia.
