From Improvisation to Composition and the Choreographic Process
Echo Arts announces workshop/performance/research project"From Improvisation to
Composition and the Choreographic process"in collaboration with the School of
Performance and Cultural Industries (University of Leeds)
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
CONCEPT
The proposal is to organise a workshop/exchange with a theatre director,
a choreographer and composer to work with 5 participants from Cyprus and 5
participants from another European country. This will take place over five
days and we will explore concepts of Refining Improvisational Techniques Into
Choreographic Performance. This will question how the improvisational process can be
honed into a 'finished' product and how can different disciplines inform and enhance
this as a process of movement composition. The group, over a period of five days,
will investigate new working methods, establish links and strategies in dealing
with its non-homogenous background and working practices. It will explicitly ask
questions of collaborative hierarchy, creative freedom and ownership of material
and explore issues such as collaborative agreement, interdisciplinary awareness,
use of ready-mades and the nature of improvisation when presented live in front of an audience.
OPEN to Dancers/ choreogrpahers from Cyprus by APPLICATION onlythat must reach ECHO ARTS by 15th of March 2009.
The research project will select 5-7 dancers 2 male and 5 female to have their contribution in this research project/exchange with the University of Leeds.
