kores
kores is part of a larger choreographic cycle by Arianna Economou on the myth of Demeter-Persephone, dealing with the archetypical image of mother-daughter and the Goddess as a triple Goddess in ancient Greek religion as
Maiden - Mother - Crone or
Flower - Fruit - Seedpot,
symbolising and portraying the biological and spiritual process of every woman towards maturity and self-growth.
The myth signifies as also in the Eleusinian Mysteries the process towards transformation and transcedence from darkness to light, the unconsciousness to consciousness and from death to resurrection.
The three dancers on stage act out those roles as parts within themselves but also in their interaction to each other, interexchanging roles.
kores, first performed in June 1999 at Kastelliotissa with collaborators-dancers Athena Piki and Maria Mylonas, is only a part from a performance. For the Cyprus participation in the third European Dance Festival it was performed in collaboration with the dancers-choreographers Margarita Andreou and Alexandra Waierstall.
