Programme note
"On weight" is an interdisciplinary piece combining Jeanette Winterson's language with choreography and juxtaposing it,
also, with video imagery, installation and sound.
Based on fragments of Winterson's novel 'Weight', the piece, like the book, intertwines autobiographical narrative with a
retelling of the myth of Atlas. It is an exploration of loneliness and the longing for freedom, being trapped within the
gravitational pull of past and future, and the capacity, finally, to break free of that gravitational pull, to crawl out
from under the weight that we burden ourselves with, and to say, in the end, with Winterson 'I don't need the weight.
Let it go. There are reservations and regrets, but let it go'.
