URBAN BODIES II - Moving Spaces 2006
Video Dance Workshop

7-15 April 2006

For the second in succession year ECHO ARTS Living Arts Centre and Brave New Media, in collaboration with Video Dance Festival Greece, organise together with Rachel Davies (filmmaker UK) the seminar/workshop Video Dance "URBAN BODIES - MOVING SPACES 2006".

"I am a filmmaker whose work comes out of an emotional response to a situation. I am interested in the real and the imagined/illusory, and when these worlds intersect. So I often mix up different media and use 'unreal' or staged elements within an everyday or documentary context, to try to investigate a truth beyond what is obvious.
I have made numerous short films with a variety of performers including dancers, musicians and performance poets too. Over a week workshop I will start by showing and analysing some films, looking at the interpretation of ideas into dance and film, ideas of realness and illusion, and the creation of meaning and the possibilities for its impact on screen. I'll then set a small exercise. Then some basic technical and directing/shooting instruction, film language, etc. Following this, students will research individual ideas and locations for a personal piece. They will crew on each other's films, so that everyone gets support and learns different roles. We will then edit the films. Each student will make a very short film, comprised of no more than five shots."

Dance film screenings

As part of the official programme of Video Dance 2005 festival will be screened on the 7th and 8th March 8:30pm at the Weaving Mill, presented by Christiana Galanopoulou Video Dance artistic directore and programme curator. Though open to the wider public, they are a working part of the Intensive Workshop.
