- Workshop Description
- This intensive workshop offers an opportunity for participants to research the relationship between dance and video with
other artists, under the guidance of an experienced practitioner, film maker (and former choreographer) Miranda Pennell (UK).
We will consider both the common features and the contrasts between the 'language' of dance and the language of film and video.
In practice we will develop movement for screen, and there will also the opportunity to explore the relationship between
projected image (or on-screen image) and live presence for those who wish to focus on this area.
Sessions begin with a short screening and discussion, leading into a practical exploration with camera and movement. Participants will work in pairs either within the studio or within locations close to the studio/building. Later in the week participants will work on a collaborative dance video project focusing either on single-screen video, or on video in relation to live performance. The emphasis of the workshop will be on practical experimentation, dialogue and exchange within a supportive and creative environment. There will be an informal showing of short pieces developed during the workshop on the last day.
Participants should be prepared to collaborate with one another, and be willing to work within the technical resources and the time frames available to us.
